Although the female figure is the main subject in her works, many of her paintings feature animals or flowers as well. They might seem at variance with the psychological themes in her figures, but “To me they are all part of the same river. Flowers are some of the few things that I have always loved and been surrounded by, so it’s not surprising that they would find their way in.”

When she began painting there was never a question of what kind of work I would do. I didn’t even really think
about it. The fact that I would be striving to create beautifully rendered alternate realities seemed obvious, like it
couldn’t be otherwise. Some things just happen that way I suppose. It’s also likely that my tendency to feel
somewhat disconnected with my real life or as if there is a certain unreality to it could be part of what drives me
to create actual realities that I can look at over and over and are tangible in some sort of concrete way

I love seeing brush
strokes and work that is ‘painterly’ but that’s not what I had in mind for myself. And I went to some figure
drawing groups to work from life, which was fun but, again, not a way to create the kind of fully rendered
alternate realities I envisioned
Her richly colored figurative oil paintings aim to convey a sense of positive emotion and feeling to the viewer
revealing elements of her subjects’ personalities besides her own. While depicting contemporary subjects,
Her work involves glazing many layers making the colors rich and glowing as if from the inside and it takes
several months to complete a single artwork.
Her work explores what it means to let go of one previous identity in order to create a new one
Her highly refined figurative and still life paintings have the subjects placed in dark, vast environments giving
the viewer a glimpse into calm, contemplative worlds.
Her quiet shadowy works revolve around traditional elements like flowers or the nude figure but often include
contemporary references to brands and splashes of color and modernity which create a sense of surprise.
Working in oil at large scale her paintings explore the concepts of human expansion, contraction, vulnerability,
armor and other contradictory themes such as the perpetual or constant versus the transitory and
contemporary.
